Celebrating
the History of Shasta Dam
and its Communities
The
Shasta Damboree Began as Hell's Gulch Days in 1939
and was originally held to raise money to start construction
of our areas schools. The second celebration was held to raise
money to buy a fire truck for our growing communities.
World War II brought an end to the festivities and it wasn't
until 1948 that "Hells Gulch" was revived. This time it was
a mass celebration to commemorate the completion
of the $150,000 water system by the newly formed Shasta Dam
Area Public Utility District.
In 1951,
Under the organization of Mrs. Cleo Tenney,
The civic organizations were banded together and
incorporated under the name :The Shasta Damboree Delegation".
Many
events have been added through the years,
but the overall goal of the Damboree has remained the same.
To celebrate our unique history and provide fun
for our area's families.
